Mr. Guenther Mull is the CEO of DERMALOG Identification Systems GmbH, the largest German biometrics manufacturer today. After his studies in Human Biology, Mr. Mull was a lecturer and researcher at Hamburg University focusing on automized fingerprint identification. Within the scope of this project Mr. Mull has also developed an optical fingerprint live scanner. As a result of his R&D work he founded the company DERMALOG in 1995, which has more than 30 large-scale biometric installations around the world today. The AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) and fingerprint live scanner development are still a major focus of his personal work at DERMALOG.

"How secure are fingerprint biometrics today?"

Biometric technologies is a booming market with annual growth rates of around twenty percent with more than half of all biometric applications are based on fingerprints. How secure is this technology today? In respect of matching accuracy fingerprints have well proven their very high performance. Remaining problems of biometric applications are still spoofing attacks. The current status of “Fake Fingerprint Detection” and of “Liveness Detection” for fingerprints is demonstrated in this presentation and perspectives of these technologies are shown.
